Is Gray a Good Color for a Nursery?
Grays can range from light and bright with blue undertones to muted ash tones with a brown undertone. And as you might have guessed, both work great as nursery paint colors as well.
Because of the range of colors and the fact that they’re super neutral, this makes gray always a great color option for your nursery (or any other room for that matter!)
We’ve gathered 10 of our favorite gray paint colors that would look perfectly at home in any nursery.
Light Gray Nursery Paint Colors
Benjamin Moore Whitestone Gray
This shade is a beautiful blue-gray paint color with cool, blue undertones making it great for any gender, but especially if you’re having a sweet baby boy! It’s primarily a shade of gray, but it has very strong blue undertones that you can see come through depending on your lighting.
There are times in particular light where it looks downright baby blue, but Whitestone Gray has enough lightness to keep it fresh and bright, which is perfect for a classic, gray nursery.
Benjamin Moore Gray Owl
This soft gray is a stunning shade no matter what style you’re going for. Gray Owl is an excellent cool gray paint color with very subtle undertones.
This color works amazing even if you don’t have a lot of natural light. It will feel very gray, and you shouldn’t feel any heavy blue or purple coming through, which means regardless of your accent colors, they’ll match perfectly with this shade.
Sherwin Williams Repose Gray
In my opinion, and as someone who has painted a LOT of gray rooms, Sherwin Williams Repose Gray is one of the most genuinely neutral gray paints on the market. I believe this is one of the best light gray paint for a nursery.
Repose gray has no obvious undertones, which means that it can feel like a cool or a warm gray and can work with any type of decor or lighting situation.
Sherwin Williams First Star
First Star by Sherwin Williams is a soft, light gray paint color with very subtle blue undertones.
However, in some instances, the color can read more white than gray if you have a lot of natural light. This can be a good or a bad thing, depending on the overall look you’re going for.
Regardless, it is a light and airy color that would work great as a gray nursery paint color!
Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray
I’m not trying to steer you one way or another, but Benjamin Moore Boothbay Gray is hands down my favorite gray out of every gray paint color on this list.
It is a soft blue gray paint color, and while it may seem best for a boy’s nursery, with cream bedding and soft-colored accents, this could be a perfect girl nursery paint color or gender-neutral.
Greige Paint Colors
Sherwin Williams Alpaca
Alpaca from Sherwin Williams is a great grey option, but it definitely feels more greige. It is a very warm paint color, so be cautious of using it if you don’t have a lot of natural light.
Regardless, it is an attractive, neutral shade that would work well in your nursery.
Benjamin Moore Classic Gray
While this color has gray in the name, it has a touch of brown undertones, making it more of a greige paint color and an excellent choice for nurseries.
Choosing a color like Benjamin Moore Classic Gray versus a lighter gray is a great option. You just need to make sure that you have decent lighting during most of the day, or else it may feel more on the beige side than a true gray.
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray
Another trendy greige paint color is Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray Agreeable Gray.
This paint color is a bit lighter than Classic Gray but very comparable. If you’re looking for more of a greige paint color, Agreeable Gray could be the way to go.
In our own home, in rooms with lots of natural light, this color definitely looks gray, but when the sun is setting or in areas like our hallway that doesn’t have a lot of natural light, it definitely feels more of a subtle beige.
The great news about Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray is that its undertones really don’t lean heavy warm, or cool, so it’s a great balanced color.
With so many options to choose from and a seemingly endless list of opinions about what paint color should go in your baby’s room, hopefully this has made things a bit easier for you.
Gray is an excellent color for nurseries because it’s neutral and has many different undertones to choose from. Whether you’re looking for a light or deep gray shade, there are plenty of gray paint colors that will work in your nursery without covering up your beautiful decor!
